MediaPlayer – files, music and playlists
MediaPlayer is useful for music and several files in sequence. File list and playlist are separate areas; the pictured MetrixHD skin stacks them vertically. MovieSelection and EMC focus more on a recording library. A visible file extension does not guarantee support for every codec inside it.
Open the player and build a playlist
Section titled “Open the player and build a playlist”Install enigma2-plugin-extensions-mediaplayer from the feed if needed. Open Plugins → MediaPlayer. Show in main menu adds another entry point.

- Open the HDD, USB drive or mounted NAS path in the file list.
- Press OK to enter a folder or add the selected file. In the playlist, OK starts the selected entry.
- Use Bouquet/Channel +/− to switch between lists. Green/PLAY starts, Yellow/PAUSE pauses and STOP stops.
- Press MENU to add files/folders or load/save a playlist. M3U, PLS and E2PLS contain references, not the movies themselves.
- Press EXIT to leave and read the confirmation.
A NAS must already be mounted. MediaPlayer does not discover SMB shares or configure NFS mounts. Saved playlists work only while their paths remain available.
MENU and long presses
Section titled “MENU and long presses”| Function | Effect |
|---|---|
| Add directory/files to playlist | Extends the sequence; a folder may contain many files. |
| Switch to file list / playlist | Changes the active list area. |
| Delete entry / clear playlist | Removes references from the current playlist. |
| Delete file | Deletes the actual file; separate from removing a playlist entry. |
| Shuffle playlist | Randomises the sequence. |
| Load / save / delete saved playlist | Manages playlist files; deleting a playlist does not delete its media. |
| Hide player | Clears the interface for playback. |
| Edit settings | Opens setup; increase the settings level if necessary. |
In the reviewed standard keymap context, long STOP or long TV clears the playlist; long RADIO shuffles it. TEXT opens subtitle selection here. 2/8 jumps to the beginning/end of the list. A remote may use other labels or lack buttons. HELP and the long-press directory help identify the active context.
All seven setup options

All keys start with config.mediaplayer..
| Option / key | Purpose |
|---|---|
Repeat – repeat |

Save directory on exit – saveDirOnExit |
Opens the last-used folder next time. |
Start directory – defaultDir |

Show in main menu – onMainMenu |
Adds a main-menu entry point. |
See subtitles for track selection and ServiceApp for other backends. MediaPlayer setup has no general “enable codec” switch.
Checked against MediaPlayer and the keymap.
