Start wizard: the complete walkthrough

This series records a real repeat of first startup: Enigma2 was stopped, its settings file renamed, and Enigma2 started again. The process was then completed in German and English. The example uses Ethernet, one connected satellite input for Astra 19.2°E, and previously configured drives. The guide is independent of the receiver model shown.

To repeat first startup deliberately, follow Restart the wizard. After a fresh image installation, AutoRestore may restore the configuration instead, so the wizard might not appear.

This selects the menu language and regional defaults. Choose the appropriate country/language variant. It does not automatically select your preferred audio track for every service; configure audio and subtitle language preferences afterwards. Changing language may require a GUI restart before the wizard continues.

Select the correct input on the television first. Receivers with several outputs may offer HDMI and an analogue connection. This page can be skipped when there is only one output. In this version, the wizard moves to the next selection after ten seconds without confirmation. Press OK when the correct picture is visible.

3. HDMI detection, resolution and refresh rate

Automatic mode detection = Yes uses the capabilities reported by the TV through EDID. No is a deliberate override for a custom configuration, for example when an intermediate device supplies incorrect information. You still select the output mode after enabling automatic detection.

Available resolutions depend on receiver, driver, connection and TV. 1080p is progressive Full HD; 1080i uses interlaced output. UHD output is offered only when supported by the combination. This is the HDMI output resolution, not necessarily the skin’s resolution. See video output and skin resolution.

The refresh rate must suit the TV. 50 Hz suits much European broadcast content; multi allows rate switching within the offered modes. 24/25/30/60 Hz are not quality levels. For later automatic switching, see AutoResolution. This selection can also advance automatically: check the picture and confirm promptly.

Up/Down selects a row, Left/Right changes a value and OK continues. EXIT/Back returns to a previous wizard step; at the beginning it may ask whether to leave the wizard. A separately opened setup dialog uses its own colour buttons. Read the button labels along the bottom of each screen.

Exit the wizard skips the remaining basic setup. You must then configure missing items through the regular menus; this does not automatically establish reception.

Choose the connected adapter. Skip network setup continues without configuring networking. Downloads, plugin feeds, Internet services and NTP will require a working connection later.

Field Purpose and starting point
Enabled The adapter must be enabled to connect.
IP protocol Use IPv4, IPv6 or both according to your network.
Obtain an address automatically (DHCP) The router assigns an address; usually the easiest starting point.
Override DNS Enable only when deliberately replacing the automatically supplied nameservers.
Link speed Normally Auto to negotiate with the router or switch.

Apply with Green → Save. Manual addresses and all adapter options have a separate guide. A Wi-Fi adapter adds wireless discovery, SSID and a network key. Only the Ethernet path was practically recorded on this test receiver.

Depending on the path/version, this status screen appears or the wizard proceeds directly to DNS. Choose Continue, or configure another adapter if needed. If no address is assigned, check cabling, DHCP and adapter activation. See network tests and restart.

DNS means Domain Name System: it resolves a name such as a download server into IP addresses. DNS configuration explains hostname, domain, protocol preference, rotation and data source. Working automatically supplied values do not need replacing. 0.0.0.0 in an unused field is not an additional reachable DNS server.

A small keyboard help window can appear while a text field is selected. Move between fields with Up/Down and continue to the next step with OK.

This page appears when suitable partitions exist. A mount point is the directory through which a file system becomes accessible, such as /media/hdd. Selecting one is different from formatting. None means no corresponding fixed assignment in this selection.

Correctly mounted drives do not need reformatting. Green saves changed assignments; in the reviewed flow, Red → Cancel leaves this dialog without changing them and the wizard continues. For new media, distinguish the device, partition and mount point. NAS connections are configured through network shares.

Time zone area and time zone define local time, including regional daylight-saving rules. Time synchronization selects a source such as transponder time or NTP. The displayed default is not a recommendation for every use: IPTV and unreliable broadcast time particularly benefit from a working Internet time source. Date and time formats affect presentation.

Yellow → Use Geolocation can preselect a time zone based on the Internet location. Correct it manually when a VPN or inaccurate location result is involved. See time, NTP, DVB time and standby for timer and wake-up behaviour.

The receiver asks about its available tuners. The illustrated direct Astra cable uses Simple, Single, Astra 19.2°E and Send DiSEqC = No. Do not copy this onto a Unicable, motor or multiswitch installation. Use the wiring diagrams and appropriate reception guide.

A single attached satellite cable does not automatically feed other independent inputs. A, B and C identify tuners provided by the receiver. Another model may expose a different number.

Hybrid reception modes are configured separately. This unconnected example is not a DVB-C/DVB-T2 reception test. FBC and other hardware variants have their own configuration rules; completing the general first-start process does not require covering all those cases.

Offer to install a ready-made satellite channel list

A ready-made list avoids the initial scan and may include bouquets. It must suit your connection: listing a satellite does not make it receivable. In the reviewed code, the default list is extracted from the supplied /etc/defaultsat.tar.gz archive. See installing channel lists for additional settings packages from the feed.

Select None to use the scanning path instead. Accepting the default list can skip the scan question.

Network scan refers to additional transponder information from the broadcast network, not Ethernet or Wi-Fi. Enable only connected tuners/reception paths. Clear before scan can remove existing channel data and affect lists or timers.

Select a particular transponder or another offered scan scope. System, frequency, polarization, symbol rate and other parameters must match the signal. The manual scan guide explains every field. After a manual scan the wizard may offer another one.

Close the completed results or select a service. The tested build then returned to the normal operating interface without an additional completion page. If your version shows a completion message or requests a restart, confirm with OK and let the restart finish.

Check a free-to-air service afterwards, allow time for EPG data, and verify recording destination and time. Scanning does not automatically create a personally arranged favourites list. Continue with bouquets and channel lists, EPG and recording timers.
