Colour buttons and long presses
A button can have several jobs. Its effect depends on the screen currently open, a short or long press, and your own button assignments. The coloured labels on screen show the functions available there.
Understanding Red, Green, Yellow and Blue

In the channel list, the same colours can open all services, satellites, providers and favourites. In MultiBoot, Yellow can delete an image. Always read the current label: the colour alone does not tell you how an action affects your data.
While watching TV, the default short Blue press opens QuickMenu; long Blue opens Extensions. Green also depends on Subservice mode (GREEN button): subservices or, depending on the setting and availability, the Plugin Browser. Installed extensions and custom hotkeys can provide functions for Red and Yellow; neither has one universal TV function.
Short press, long press or two separate presses?
Section titled “Short press, long press or two separate presses?”- Short: press the button and release it.
- Long: hold the button until the second action is triggered, then release it. Remote controls do not all transmit this in the same way.
- Two successive presses: press, wait for the new screen, then press again there. MENU → MENU for OSD options and OK → OK for the second Infobar are sequences of this kind. They are not long presses.
Holding an arrow button may simply repeat normal movement. Key repeat and a separate long-press action are different.
Useful long-press examples

The long-press directory contains 150 bindings for 77 key codes from the default keymap. This does not promise 77 working functions on every remote.
Remote Control Button Settings: basic behaviour
Section titled “Remote Control Button Settings: basic behaviour”Open Menu → Setup → Usage & GUI → Remote Control Button Settings. This includes OK, INFO, EPG, TV, arrow and POWER behaviour.
Long press emulation with button lets you choose a prefix button. Press that button first, then the required function button. OpenATV treats the second button as a long press. The emulation button loses its previous normal action. Select None to disable emulation again.
Assigning your own hotkeys
Section titled “Assigning your own hotkeys”Open Menu → Setup → Usage & GUI → Hotkey Settings. If the entry is missing, raise the setup level to Expert.
- In Hotkey Settings, press the remote button you want to change. Hold it to configure its long press.
- Open a category in the function selection and highlight the function you want.
- Press OK to assign it. CH+/− switches between available and assigned lists. OK on an assigned function removes that assignment.
- Green saves; Red discards the edit.
- Close the menus and test the button while watching TV.
You can assign multiple functions and use the dialog’s NEXT/PREVIOUS buttons to change their order. Start with one function while learning. Remove your own assignment when you want the ordinary screen action again; INFO and EPG already have custom default assignments.
Finding the actions available now
Section titled “Finding the actions available now”HELP opens contextual help in many screens. It also lists supported long actions when that screen registers help for them. In Hotkey Settings, HELP itself is assignable and therefore does not open ordinary help.
If a button behaves unexpectedly, close the current dialog first. Then check Remote Control Button Settings, your hotkey assignment and any selected alternative keymap. You do not need to edit XML files for these basic settings.

Map the remaining remote-control options
Section titled “Map the remaining remote-control options”Usage & GUI → Remote Control Button Settings contains 15 options. Alongside the POWER, Blue and emulation functions explained above, it includes:

Individual keys and conditions remain in the existing remote-button reference. Custom hotkeys act in their own contexts; plugins may handle keys themselves. When resolving conflicts, change one setting and test both TV viewing and the affected screen.
Repeat timing belongs to Input Devices, IR type/code to Remote control code, and the external keyboard layout to Keyboard.
