Switch DVB-C and DVB-T2 with SPAUN TAR 5

A suitable hybrid tuner can use cable and aerial reception alternately. On the SPAUN TAR 5, aerial voltage selects the input connected to the tuner: 0 V → CATV/cable, 5 V → DVB-T/aerial. This is an RF relay, not another tuner or a satellite DiSEqC switch.

  1. Cable TV wall outlet to the TAR 5 CATV / TV socket.

Open Menu → Setup → Tuners, Scanning & Reception → Tuner Configuration → shared C/T2 tuner. On supported hardware, configure both reception types: DVB-C with provider/scan parameters and DVB-T with country/region. Enable 5 V for active antenna in the DVB-T section. Here the supply also controls the relay.

Run cable and terrestrial scans separately. Add one service of each type to a test bouquet and switch between them. The driver must change aerial voltage as the reception type changes. If the receiver supports only one permanently selected mode, or lacks a controllable 5 V output, the relay alone cannot make this example work.

The TAR 5 still requires 5 V for switching when the aerial itself needs no power. For a non-DC-compatible aerial, SPAUN specifies a DC blocker in the DVB-T aerial branch. Place it between aerial and relay so that the receiver-to-relay control path still carries 5 V. Do not indiscriminately insert a blocker between receiver and TAR 5.

The photograph specifies 5 V, 35 mA and 5–862 MHz. Different documents/revisions list different DC-pass limits, so check the limits of the actual relay and receiver instead of applying a higher catalogue figure to the photographed device. The relay and any active aerial share the supply load. Its frequency range must cover the cable channels in use; this revision does not promise coverage above 862 MHz.

A DVB-C recording occupies the shared tuner. Watching or recording DVB-T2 at the same time would change the input source and is not possible with this one frontend. Having both channel lists configured does not change this. Multiple services within one multiplex are a separate case.
