Video output, resolution and refresh rate
Open MENU → Setup → Video → Video Settings. Video output controls the HDMI signal. Skin resolution is configured separately and does not automatically equal the video output resolution.

Establish a stable baseline
Section titled “Establish a stable baseline”- Select the connected output, normally HDMI.
- Start with automatic resolution disabled.
- Choose a mode supported by the complete chain. 1080p50 is often a suitable starting point for European television on a Full HD/UHD TV; older displays may need 720p50 or 1080i50. Use UHD only when the receiver, display, intermediate device and cable support it.
- Press Green and confirm only if the picture is visible and correct. The checked mode-change confirmation waits 20 seconds; without confirmation, the previous mode is restored. Some additional options apply immediately and are not all covered by that rollback.
- Check several channels and a known recording before changing colour/HDR or automatic switching.
Resolution, p/i and Hz
Section titled “Resolution, p/i and Hz”| Term | Meaning |

A 24 fps film can show uneven camera pans at a fixed 50/60 Hz output. Matching film timing can help, but switching may briefly resynchronise HDMI. Changing refresh rate does not fix network buffering or decoding failures.
Aspect ratio
Section titled “Aspect ratio”16:9 normally suits a modern TV and is fixed by some output modes. Pillarbox preserves 4:3 with side bars. Letterbox preserves wider content with top/bottom bars. Pan & Scan / Zoom fills the screen by cropping; stretch / nonlinear changes proportions. Names and combinations depend on driver and output format.
Bars encoded into the programme are part of the video. The aspect-ratio setting cannot automatically distinguish them from picture content. Additional zoom can crop subtitles or useful detail. OSD and picture adjustment treats cropped menus separately.
